At the O’Leary Law Firm, John J. O’Leary provides legal representation and advice in the areas of real estate development and related litigation, as well as construction law and related litigation, for clients throughout the Chicago area, particularly Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Will Counties. His clients include real estate developers, architects, contractors, subcontractors, property owners, property managers, condominium associations, and commercial tenants. John handles condominium development matters, real estate litigation, commercial lease litigation, and mechanics lien and construction defect litigation. He also prepares and negotiates construction contracts and commercial leases, and handles commercial and residential closings.

The value John brings to the attorney-client relationship is his extensive knowledge of real estate development and construction, which combined with his experience as a trial lawyer, provides clients with realistic advice and recommendations that are geared toward meeting their legal needs and empowering them to make good decisions. John creates and maintains close personal relationships with his clients and prides himself on being accessible and working around his clients’ schedules. John is as comfortable in his hard hat walking around a client’s development or construction site as he is in the courtroom or at the closing table.

John received his law degree in 1980 from Northwestern University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. In 1999, John obtained a Master of Laws in Real Estate Law (LL.M.) from The John Marshall Law School. He is a member of the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry, the Chicago Bar Association Mechanics Lien Committee, the Chicago Association of Subcontractors and Affiliates, the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, and serves on the Auxiliary Board of the Chicago Architecture Foundation.
